UNDERGROUND CONSTRUCTION MINER

Location: Sudbury, Ontario

Reports to: Site Supervisor or Manager

Purpose and Scope of Position:

Construction Miners have the potential to work inside, underground, and outside in all seasons and environment conditions. The work requires a keen mathematical mind, good hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adherence to policies and procedures by actively promoting a safe and productive work environment with
    crew members
  • Accountable to meet safety compliance and assist with achieving projected work goals
  • Report for work-fit and ready to positively engage in the day’s work activities by following directives and engaging as a team player, safely and efficiently preforming daily work duties
  • Address any unsafe conditions immediately, rectifying or isolating and reporting – STOP and CORRECT
  • Scaling and conducting pre-operation inspection of worksite(s)
  • Install ground support with hand-held equipment, when required
  • Apply shotcrete (dry)
  • Install/build ventilation control walls
  • Install fans and ventilation ducts
  • Install bumper blocks
  • General carpentry and concrete finishing
  • Install and maintain mine services (air, water, and pumping)
  • Install/build pumping installation (dams, stationary pumping stations, weirs, etc.)
  • Build general mine infrastructures (refuges, ESS, storages, mags, ventilation door, shops, etc.)
  • Inspect work during and after completion and ensure results are following prints and standards
  • Contribute to and establish workplace relationship
  • Provide workplace status update to relevant people at the end of shift (supervisor and co-workers)
  • Support the construction supervisor by doing site inspections, QA/QC, establish methodology in construction context, etc.
  • Take initiate to lead and direct other miners/workers to complete the task-at-hand, safely and efficiently
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge:

 

  •  High school diploma (OSSD) or equivalency
  • A valid driver’s license
  • A minimum of 3 years of previous experience as a Construction Miner or previous mining experience
  • Must have Basic Underground Common Core training in the program (U0000, U0001, U0002, and U0012B) or equivalent provincial designation
  • Hard Rock Mining Common Core Modules (U0003, U0003A, U0003B, U0004, U0005 and U0006) will be considered as an asset
  • A strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently
  • Strong experience in construction/carpentry, concrete, and welding work
  • Ability to read and understand engineering prints (civil work, structural work, rock excavation work) will be considered an asset
  • Exhibit high attention to detail and high standards
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform their duties in a safe and efficient manner

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40lbs (18kg)
  • Ability to use the bend, crouch, climbing and reaching motions
  • Prolonged periods of standing or kneeling
  • Ability to work in all working conditions and weather conditions (in acceptance of safe work conditions)
  • Ability to work all shifts, including nights and weekends (flexible hours)
  • Ability to work rotational work – 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off (12 hours/day) – if required
  • Ability to travel, when and if required
