UNDERGROUND LABOURER

Location: Sudbury, Ontario

Reports to: Site Supervisor or Manager

Purpose and Scope of Position:

The Underground Labourer will assist the underground crew in the performance of their duties.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Adherence to policies and procedures by actively promoting a safe and productive work environment with
  crew members
• Accountable to meet safety compliance and assist with achieving projected work goals
• Report for work-fit and ready, positively engage in the day’s work activities by following directives and engaging as a team player, safely and efficiently preforming daily work duties
• Address any unsafe conditions immediately, rectifying or isolating and reporting – STOP and CORRECT
• Minor maintenance repairs around site
• Housekeeping
• Operate loaders and bobcats
• Assist with various tasks as required (ex. Moving jersey barriers, fueling equipment, etc.)
• Load out waste rock from shafts
• Supplying materials to shafts as needed
• Understand the basic functions of the equipment for pre-operation inspection
• Load/offload materials with forklift
• Attachment connection and disconnection (exchange)
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skill, and Knowledge:

• High school diploma (OSSD) or equivalency

• Valid driver’s license

• Previous experience as an Underground Labourer or equivalent provincial designation, will be considered as an asset

• Underground Hardrock Miner Common Core modules will be considered an asset

• Basic Underground Common Core

• Equipment operating experience will be considered as an asset

• NORCAT certificate will be considered an asset

• Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform their duties in a safe and efficient manner

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift a minimum of 40lbs (18kg)
• Ability to use the bend, crouch, climbing and reaching motions
• Prolonged periods of standing or kneeling
• Ability to work in all working conditions and weather conditions (in acceptance of safety work conditions)
• Ability to work all shifts, including nights and weekends (flexible hours)
• Ability to work rotational work – 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off (12 hours/day) – if required
• Ability to travel, when and if required
