JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN

Location: Sudbury, Ontario

Reports to: Manager

Purpose and Scope of Position:

A Journeyman Electrician is qualified to work on all types of electrical systems. The work may include new electrical installations, electrical repairs and upgrades, and maintenance of electrical systems.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adherence to policies and procedures by actively promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Accountable to meet safety compliance and assist with achieving project work goals
  • Report for work-fit and ready to positively engage in the day’s work activities by following directives and engaging as a team player, safely and efficiently performing daily work duties
  • Address any unsafe conditions immediately, rectifying or isolating and reporting – STOP and CORRECT
  • Install various types of equipment and electrical services, including distribution systems, conduit, cable trays, messenger, cables, and other equipment while in compliance with all relevant Electrical Safety Codes
  • Prepare and have customers sign all work orders
  • Report all potential replacement equipment, as needed
  • All installations are to be carried out as per code and specifications where highlighted
  • Load side electrical connections from disconnect provided including all conduit and wiring required for equipment. All main power connections are subject to and require an ESA inspection
  • All low voltage wiring for activation accessories and limits including control wiring and fire relay connections as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skill, and Knowledge:

 

  • High school diploma (OSSD) or equivalency
  • 2-4 years of previous or related Electrician experience is required
  • Preference will be given to Journeymen with mining and other heavy industrial experience
  • Underground/surface common core certifications
  • Working knowledge of Electrical Safety codes, is required
  • 309A license, is required
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrates good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Sound mechanical knowledge is a must
  • Sound electrical knowledge is an asset
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform their duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Must be flexible and able to work on various job sites, including remote mining camps, and other out of
  • town and out of province work/various local job sites

 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40lbs (18kg)
  • Ability to use the bend, crouch, climbing and reaching motions
  • Prolonged periods of standing or kneeling
  • Ability to work in all working conditions and weather conditions (in acceptance of safe work conditions)
  • Ability to work all shifts, including nights and weekends (flexible hours)
  • Ability to work rotational work – 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off (12 hours/day) – if required
  • Ability to travel, when and if required
